I've had a libertarian take on the prosecution but have always been wholly opposed to outright legalization and promotion of it. It's never been healthy. I knew it would change our political landscape and attract tons of shitty people to move to CO.

I think the ideal middle ground would've been no jail/prison sentences but massive fines . People could still smoke with the only serious risk to their wallet, and it wouldn't be promoted as beneficial to society.
Look around Portland and 16th street in Denver. Things that impede motivation result in a decent fraction of the users become a leech upon society.

China does not have these issues. I guess I look a few decades ahead, though :/

The deer in the headlights look of the cannabis business community here is amusing. It's like they never expected other states to legalize and offer direct competition, nor did they understand how the novelty might wear-off, nor did they understand that the economy has a direct impact of their primary customer base's ability to buy product. They just expected the market, sales and profits to just keep going up and up, because, it's legal weed, man...

I'm going out on a limb to say that sales are down because people are just buying on the black market from the same dealer they always bought it from in the past. The thing is that black market weed is still a thing as it always has and it's cheaper than from the dispensary and doesn't have tax added on to the top. As a dealer, selling the stuff on the streets is a pretty safe bet as almost zero law enforcement effort is put in to it any more.

Everybody just goes to the store, there is one on every corner. Only real black market for weed in CO is between growers & retailers to skirt the rules and the law.

The market decides. Per the Denver Post today:
The average cannabis wholesale price recently fell to an all-time low of $658 per pound for flower, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue. That’s down 7% from the previous low of $709 per pound on July 1. The previous low point was $759 per pound in 2018.

Those sorts of vagrants aren't smoking weed. Even when weed was only illegal black market, it cost a lot more than the drugs these folks use.

It certainly wasn't weed that made the addict get into an argument with a ghost across the street from my work and then take his pants off when the argument got real serious.

And it wasn't weed that made the other crackhead wave around a machete in our parking lot crying about people trying to kill him. Or the guy banging on our door begging to be let in because there are monsters outside.

It's not weed that requires literal hazmat gear when homeless camps are cleaned up.

And I guarantee it's not the suburban professional buying $50 weed gummy bears at the dispensary on Friday night that turns into a fentanyl addict on 16th St mall next month.

(Fentanyl pills are like <$5 according to a drug interdiction team guy I know).

My office is surrounded by this shit and none of them are smoking weed.
I'm no fan of weed, but it's not the root of our societal problems.

The lack of motivation shown by these people isn't the drugs. It's that fact that it's EASY to live that life because they will be given money, food, phones, shelter anytime they need it. Hell, in some places they'll even be given the drugs and a "safe" place to use them. Why be a productive member of society when it's so easy not to? Motivation comes from need, these people don't need anything because it's all given to them.

People who are heavy users are growing it instead of buying it retail. Costs of the growing supplies have dropped quite a bit as prices (and taxes) on retail weed have gone up. Retail is for suckers in the weed world. The novelty has also worn off as others have said. Pot tourism isn't as popular as more states have made retail weed legal. The news outlets keep stating how much the state has lost in taxes. I'm still waiting to see anything good that the weed taxes have paid for.
