I think this slippery slope got greased when we agreed to a 21 drinking age. When I was 18 it was legal to drink (albeit only 3.2% beer) but they changed the law later.
I don't like this idea of 'conditional adulthood.' It makes no sense. You're either an adult, with all the responsibilities, burdens, and obligations of being an adult - as well as the rights and freedoms of an adult, or you're not.
There's nothing more ridiculous than a 19 year old war veteran being charged with "underage drinking." Really? Guy can carry a machine gun and trade shots with the Taliban but he can't have a f***ing beer when he gets back to the states because he's "not mature enough?"![]()
