I had surgery last Tuesday and am currently tapering-off on my valid hydrocodone prescription.

Not driving (collar bone repair), but would still like to carry when out and about this evening- GO or NO GO?

Hydrocodone is a controlled substance according to 18-18-102 (5) - as best I can tell since that section goes on and on...

18-12-106. Prohibited use of weapons - definitions.
(1) A person commits a class 1 misdemeanor if:
(d) The person has in his or her possession a firearm while the person is under the influence of intoxicating liquor or of a controlled substance, as defined in section 18-18-102 (5).

Possession of a permit issued under section 18-12-105.1, as it existed prior to its repeal, or possession of a permit or a temporary emergency permit issued pursuant to part 2 of this article is no defense to a violation of this subsection (1).

Are you likely to behave under the influence? It would have to be proven beyond doubt. The risk of conflict and discovery seems slim. And if it were to happen, wouldn't it be better to be found guilty by 12 (of a misdemeanor!) than to be carried by six? Only you can decide if it's worth the risk of losing your permit.

To echo what others have said. Under the influence is the issue. In reality even being on OTC cold medicine, one can receive a DWI. Due to the DISCLAIMER : CAUTION MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS .

Irrespective of the legalities involved, could you actually effectively draw and fire?

I had half of my collarbone removed last year and the mere act of drawing/firing was severely hampered for many many months after the fancy Rx meds wore off.
