uh...why.
Why is this a bad topic...what am I missing?
Boy is that putting it mildly. Check out this thread that we've discussed BoS's in lately:

Sorry....I did not find the previous threads on this.
the ONLY reason why I want a BOS.
I sell a gun, and Joe Dirt Ball whacks someone and throws the gun in Sloans lake.
They trace the gun back to me....with a BILL of sale, I say, I sold it to this dude here is his DL#.
???
Theoretically, the firearm would corrode long before they found it in the sludge that is Sloan's Lake.![]()
Yeah, that sounds like a great plan but it doesn't always turn out that way. A piece of paper can't offer you total protection. In CO, no paperwork is required for a FTF transfer. If a firearm that you used to own is ever used to commit a crime and is traced back to you, you WILL be put under scrutiny. Providing a BoS really won't remove that scrutny any better than simply telling the authorities that you sold the gun.
You really should read the thread I linked to above. You'll see the opinions all over on this topic. Lots of logic in both sides of this issue.
BTW, many others agree with this: I'll let you glance at my DL to verify I live in CO, but you won't be writing anything down from it. The two biggest advantages to not using an FFL or retailer(for the purposes of this post, also assumed to be an FFL), are price and no paperwork. While I have nothing to hide NOW, some day all of that paperwork may come back to haunt typically law-abiding citizens.
