Default Need help getting muzzle device off.

I?ve tried every trick and tool I have and cannot get the muzzle brake of my 6.5 AR. Anyone in Loveland or Fort Collins that would be willing to give it a shot?
Ive tried heat and soaking it in water and I can?t get the damn thing to budge.

    Nope. It’s a Surefire brake/suppressor mount on a 22” 6.5 AR platform.

    Factory installed?

    May very well have Rocksett.

Torch till it's smoking (Rocksett burning) and then use a wrench to spin it off.

Hmm, that sort of answered my question - is the barrel one of those short 14.xx and used the pinned and welded muzzle device to make 16" minimum.

Part of me was thinking - heat / cold / wet cycle based on a few how-to remove rocksett...which was the first response when I searched based on that product.

If it's Rocksett this method is supposed to work, found on another forum.

    1. Boil water in a pan, submerge mount/threads into it and leave it overnight. Try not to leave too much of the barrel in there if you can help it, though it won't hurt if you clean it good later.

    2. In the morning or next day, do this again. Leave it in the water for ten minutes or so to heat back up but before the water is cool, remove it.

    3. Have your reaction rod or barrel vise setup and quickly put it on (for removal).

    3. Should wrench right off now.

A little heat from the torch can help, but only after you've soaked it like this. It'll "crack" easier like the guy above said if still stubborn. This is what works best for me. Quickly clean it with a brush and pick after it comes off and before it rehardens and it'll be much easier to clean. Be sure to get it all out then.

I had a few Rocksett devices that had to go into the ultrasonic cleaner. Hung them above with just the thread end submersed.

Soak in heated distilled water, then a few cycles and they came off pretty easy. Previous cold soaks didn't work.

This. Rocksett is water soluble. I won't say heat won't touch it, but it's the hard way to do things.

If it is Rocksett... And you know it is Rocksett...

    SMACK IT!

Rocksett has crystalline structure. If you give it a sharp smack it will shatter like glass. It will still take a little muscle to get it moving but it should start moving. Then just work it back and forth some to grind down the crystals a bit and it will come right off. I don't use any other method now. If it is Rocksett.

It doesn't a real hard blow to shatter it, just something to shock it.

One thing to keep in mind is that if someone torqued it on to 30 ft./lbs. then you will generally need 31 ft./lbs. to get it loose. I think.

I tried giving it a good smack with a hammer and didn’t work.
But I finally gave in a bought new vice after one of my friends who was housesitting for me broke my old one and replaced it with one that’s a complete POS. Out of spite I held off this long replacing it with a decent one.
    Will try again tonight.
