    Default Disabling Vehicles

Happened to be in a group earlier today talking about disabling vehicles with firearms. Too much hollywood influence in the ideas being passed around. Overly focused on punching a hole through the block and similar. Kept my tongue in the talk, but it got me thinking after. There are so many tender spots on cars that are much easier to nail than punching the block. Kinda bothers me in movies when a car is all shot to crap, but somehow not a single hole in the radiator, fuel injection system OK, power steering fine, etc.

So, thought puzzle for the group. You are responsible for defending a relatively open site. Non-armored vehicles are to be expected. Engagement range would be 600 to 1400 yards. What is your caliber choice, and what is your plan of engagement targeting?

    Default 84 Chevy P/U ?

30.06 to the radiator. Then the windshield. You will see the steam. They will see they are being repulsed. Hopefully they will just bail. .50 cal Barrett M82 at 600 yards. Probably will go in the block. Drone with a AGM64 and watch the video...

600 yards is a very long shot. Over a 1/4 mile.

Depending on how many vehicles are trying to get to my garden, I'd likely wait until they are closer.

Weapon of choice? Mine or any?

Any weapon would be a semi-auto .50 BMG or if we are going super unlimited, a turret mounted M2, chain-fed full-auto with 600k rounds of ammo and a cute girl to help feed the belts.

My guns? Scoped 30-06. Radiator if head on. Top of the front tire from the side. Both shots could damage a lot of equipment if not dead solid hits. If they keep coming, switch to the .450 Bushmaster at around 200 yards.

I'd put one of these in my yard and everything would be groovy, man.

well; radiator would be the big target...tires are always good - unless they are the higher end run flats.

For EV; the battery pack, but you might end up with a roasted car.

A lucky shot might spider web the front windshield.

going for solid copper round; hmm, even a simple 308 at that range 6.5 for more fun.

Trenches - something that would take out the wheels / axle going at speed.

At that range, and a moving target, I think anyone would simply be doing well to aim at where the "tiny" vehicle will be in 2 seconds.

M1 Rifle with AP Incindiary rounds to the block is a sure thing. I carry them in my truck.....

A vehicle can go a good long ways with a leaking radiator, but not with a busted piston and big hole in the block.

The easiest way to disable a vehicle is to disable or kill the bag of flesh in the driver's seat. Head on you have a large target to accomplish this.

From the side? If not sure where they sit, aim for front wheel. Might get luck and lock that brake or hub.

Site preparation is the only true surefire way to stop any high speed avenues of approach. Id choose a bulldozer and a backhoe and about a month of time to dig trenches and build berms. Then I could sit back and wait and bide my time as they get stuck in my maze of trenches and killzones and then take well aimed shots when they are backing up or moving slowly for a higher percentage hit ratio. 😎
