Eggs? Specifically Walmart

Even our major suppliers have been having difficulty with eggs. I have had to go buy locally at Walmart or safeway when they have them. We have been lucky that not everyone is out at the same time. It definately hurts at $5 a dozen when I order 75 dozen a week.

The inflation report for US was released today.
Eggs went up in price 38 percent since this time last year.
Colorado requires chickens to be free-range after January 1, but will not enforce that for an undetermined time, maybe 3 months.
Experts project Colorado eggs will increase in price another 20 to 30 percent with the new requirement.
I like eggs.

My buddy had an emu and gave me that egg. Scariest bird I've ever seen. He's 5'7" and it was taller than him. He told me one day it kicked apart a couple of coyotes that were unfortunate enough to end up in it's pen. He said they were shredded by its dinosaur feet.

My dad used to have a few. Those evil birds would reach over the fence and try to smack my brother and I in the top of our heads. They got me once. Lesson learned.

Some of this could just be time of year. Baking season with the Holidays and more folks at home than normal. Combined with businesses complying with bird flu hysteria. Try to source your eggs as close to the Chicken coop as possible. Long supply chains suck and have never been a good idea. Alternatively cut back on your consumption of eggs. We go through at most a dozen eggs in a week, but there are many weeks where we do not eat a single egg. They are good for you, but not a necessity.

I want an emu. It’s funny watching how afraid people are of the roosters and the big turkey. But for a 6ft bird t walk around the corner… I’d die laughing.

Just now on the radio the head of the Colorado egg industry said the new law won’t affect production. Production is being effected by the avian flu. He said prices could go up with the new law because NO egg product can be brought into CO if the come from a “cage” facility. There were other stipulations to that based on the size of the egg facility. Also mentioned peas cage eggs are the same quality as cage free eggs. No quality or nutritional value gains in the cage free.
