Yes, this entirely caused by the new strain of avian influenza which has killed millions of domestic chickens, waterfowl raptors and owls. It's very serious as it moves into songbird populations and eventually will cost countless billions in crop failures and increased food prices.

Birds eat bugs, bugs eat crops. We have hero ball players, actors, singers, etc. No one can really name a virologist of prominence. They don't make the talk circuit.

On the local scene, the Eurasian collared dove is the avian I have seen the most affected and I would surmise is the primary vector.
