"The prohibition does not apply to…Possession or importation of an assault weapon for used exclusively in an established sport competition;"

Just have to start on organization that is free to join and has an annual competition for "assault weapons".

Hunting or shooting on public lands appears to be unlawful possession in this bill...

Scary. Having any of the one characteristics makes it qualify. Which the federal ban I thought it had to have multiple. So a threaded barrel in your pistol is now an assault weapon.

Sherrie Peif has an article as well...

Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams also took issue with the constitutionality of the bill.

"On face value, it violates someone's Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights by forcing them to provide evidence against themselves,"

"Whoever authored the bill has some familiarity with guns, but not complete familiarity," Reams said. "The nomenclature they use doesn't make any sense, including the things they are using to describe an assault rifle. So If I buy gun that weighs more than 50 ounces (which under the new law would be illegal), but I put different grips on it making it less than 50 ounces, it's now legal?"

"I am not going to take something away from someone and have them try to prove to me that it's legal. That's just not the way the constitution works."

    Good for him.

This is about the only way I can think of to prove ownership.

Even receipts don't have serial numbers on them, so that receipt for the AR? How do I [government] know that it's *this* AR that I confiscated?

Timestamps on pictures can be modified, so that's not proof. Pictures with newspapers don't prove anything since I can dig out an old newspaper and take a picture of a firearm with it.

Also remember that this bill becomes law the MOMENT it's signed. So you better get a notarized list of serial number done NOW.

The beauty of a notarized list is that it's not registration. Only you have the list. And if you don't have a safe deposit box now, you better get one.

I maintain a list of all my firearms and their serial numbers in case of theft. I'm planning on printing that out and getting it notarized soon.

    O2

Ps. No statement above construes that I agree with any part of the bill in any shape or form.

Doing anything now is a waste of time as the bill is likely to change before passing and becoming law.

Though true, just keep in mind that the moment it passes it's too late to do anything.

Typically a law doesn't go into effect until the next calendar year. Unless they specify it is an immediate threat that needs immediate action. An example would be the magazine ban, it was passed in March and went into effect in July. The released bill has no such wording.
