Default Who are you using to ship pistols?

Looking for an FFL who ships pistols for private sales. North of Denver.

    Who do you use?

Assuming you are shipping to the buyers FFL? You can ship it yourself. Pretty sure all of the carriers require you to ship overnight if shipping a handgun.

No more counter service for shipping firearms VIA UPS or FedEx.
Only firearms specific account holders can ship firearms thru UPS or FedEx and those are pick-ups at the business, no counter service.
This came out some months ago, details are published on the UPS and FedEx web sites.
Not sure about the rules at USPS, I am sure they have those details published on-line.

OH, and I would advise AGAINST just shipping via UPS or FedEx without informing them of the true contents.
They have a new policy about "contraband", you get banned from using the shipping service and the "contraband" items are destroyed.

All these changes are the results of state attorney generals suing and ATF requiring more accountability with firearms shipments.

"OH, and I would advise just shipping via UPS or FedEx without informing them of the true contents."

Is this what you meant to say? Or you WOULDN'T advise it? Just confused here is all.....seems like if you disclosed what it is, it couldn't be contraband then.

You are correct, I meant to say I would advise against shipping firearms VIA UPS or FedEX without informing them of the true contents.

I also read that you cannot ship handguns via USPS.

So, you really have to ship thru a licensed dealer who has an account with UPS or FedEx.
Also, handguns are not shipped ground, they will only ship overnight or 2nd day air.

An FFL can ship via USPS.

UPS is notorious for employee theft/loss of packages.

FedEx Overnight is probably your best bet. Company policy requires you disclose the contents, have the box marked as such, then pay additional fees, but I do not believe that is law if it is going to an FFL or is an antique.

I used to work in Colorado for a company based in Shrewsbury NJ.
The FedEx depot about 2 miles away from the HQ had people who were caught stealing large volumes of brand new Taurus firearms that were moving from the port of Newark.
It had been going on for a long time.
TAURUS never knew and the destination never knew.
The ATF finally figure out where all these new guns were coming from that turned up in crimes in the tri-state area.

IT AIN"T just UPS that has guns stolen.

Now that firearms can only be shipped by FFL account holders identified by UPS and FedEx that may help stop the theft.
No more guns being shipped at the counter means fewer employee's know "what is in the box"
But, it makes it harder for the average person the ship an firearm, a handgun especially.

Thanks all. Yes, shipping myself to an FFL is going to be $100 or so because of that requirement. FFL can ship it USPS priority. Even with reasonable fees it saves a lot of money to pay an FFL to ship it.

The new reality of shipping firearms, especially handguns is not good at all.
Other question that came up, buy a handgun thru a seller on GunBroker and have it transferred thru a small shop that doesn't have a shipper account with FedEx or UPS.
Try to return it to the seller, as a person you have zero options, and in the case I describe the licensed dealer only has USPS as an option.
In other words, ask your questions before making the purchase and be sure you really want what you are buying.
