MAC version of the info. But yeah insane to a new level than originally thought by most. Literally no way to legally have these often very expensive "pistols"

I am not totally understanding how these imported "pistols" are now illegal.

Let assume someone bought an HK SP5. It is a pistol. They never attached a brace. It has always been a pistol and not under 922.

Now lets assume they bought an SP5 and put a brace on it. The "rule" came out so the person removed the brace is required by the rule. It is STILL a pistol once the brace is removed. This has already been decided by the SCOTUS in 1992.

    https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/504/505/

A pistol can be converted to a rifle and then back to a pistol. However, in the TC case a pistol configuration can be assembled from a pistol. A rifle configuration can be assembled from the pistol by adding a buttstock and a 16+ inch barrel. But it is not allowed to have the pistol barrel and the buttstock at the same time.

A rifle can never be converted to a pistol.

But this is already settled law. Make the pistol a pistol and 922 is not applicable.

Now, it is probably not legal to make an SBR with foreign parts, so Form 1ing a foreign pistol to a rifle with non-922 compliance is probably not possible.

The easy answer is...because the ATF says so.

The complicated answer is the ATF says that braced pistols have already been made into SBRs. To legally make a foreign pistol into an SBR it had to have US made parts installed "before" the conversion to SBR or it is an illegal conversion, As the braced pistols do not already have the parts on them...and because of the brace (per the ATF) we're always SBRs...they were illegally converted to SBRs.

I didn't think anyone gave a rat's ass about 922R. I know I've had guns where I intentionally replaced a bunch of garbage furniture with better imported wood.
Never gave much of a shit.

Most people don't. In this case the ATF is making assumptions and using those assumptions to go after gun owners.
