    Default Memphis Powder Keg

Let's hope cooler heads prevail this weekend in Memphis. It sounds like the authorities are gearing up for trouble with the release of body cam footage of the beating of the young black man by 5 black cops. Lots of questions starting with why run from the police?
    Sad series of events.

Add the ongoing turmoil in Georgia (the Nat Guard has been called out) over a police shooting and things can get a little tense in several major areas of the country. Can't wait to hear how the media plays this out.

It's not on the people to get offended. It's on the legal system (like it or not.)

There's not been a newsworthy reason to loot and pillage for a while. Let the games begin.

I'm not sure I see the virtue in releasing the video. We know something horrible happened, do we need to watch? I am tired of seeing incidents tried in the court of public opinion.

Agree or not with the "incident" Regardless of anyone's skin color, had that been my kid. Someone sure as shit would be held to the fire. The body cams don't show any LE involved as innocent. Granted, there must be a different perspective, somewhere. Unfortunately what happened, along with TBI releasing the videos, doesn't make them look good. As for torching mephis. It would be nice IF those angered honored the parents wishes, to remain peaceful.

The one thing where, once again media bias appears is. The fact the LE involved were also black, is telling. Just like the recent CA shootings. Once the narrative skews opposite what has been pushed. It's all swept under the rug.

This is far from being swept under the rug. It is the lead story on every news site I click on.

While it doesn't fit the "white cop kill black innocent" narrative, it is being held up as "institutional" racism.

Now all cops are being trained to kill innocent young black men, not just the white ones. Who set forth those rules and training? Why, evil middle aged white men, of course. So it doesn't matter the color of the cop's skin. It is the culture of policing in America.

The police who killed Tyre Nichols were Black. But they might still have been driven by racism

In general, their results suggest that the issue has to do with officer bias, conscious or unconscious, that casts Black people as inherently more dangerous than their white counterparts.

...white supremacy isn’t only embodied by individual racists hiding their faces underneath pointed hoods, but it’s also upheld by police officers, healthcare providers, schoolteachers, business leaders, and others

It’s time to move to a more nuanced discussion of the way police violence endangers Black lives

just about 12 hrs later and on yahoo's main page the only thing "trending" is 1/2 way down the page, about the scorpion unit being disbanded. No more top of the page stories, op-ed's etc. Granted, as more info comes out articles will pop up again. Even the latest shooting in a trendy neighborhood in ca has vanished. A story about jay leno's garage being cancelled is higher up the "story page"

Wapo has 3 blurbs at the top, nyt, 1 with the rest dedicated to everything but.

Notice the Asian hate crime shootings" in ca have literally disappeared. Once again a karcrashian gets more print.

And with oscar nominations coming out, even they'll get dropped lower. Unless one of them, SURPRISE! shows her tits, again.

When I think of a scorpion, I thing of an aggressive insect with claws and a large stinger. A very nasty creature.

Why would a police unit, which is supposed to serve and protect the community they work for, want the image of something like a scorpion.

When the only tool one has is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Your right, not a good moniker for a peace keeping organization. On the other hand, crime is rampant there. Almost like someone (insert BLM) caused the policing to be cut back and fail in the past 3 years. Imagine that!

A quote form some fictional cop show - I don't remember which one, that immediately came to mind when I heard their team was named "Scorpion":

The star was trying to nail some corrupt cops and discovered that they had name for their corrupt group. The partner said something along the lines of "Why do they always name their crew. Once they name their crew it's all over..."
