Default Mother of 9 sues hospital.

    http://bostonherald.com/news/regiona...ainst_my_will/

Basically after her latest kid she went into the hospital to have a removable IUD installed into her uterus, and came out with her tubes permanently tied.

My take: The hospital screwed up BIG time and she definitely has a case. However, I'm not sympathetic to her because she is an unmarried, unemployed, mother of 9. She doesn't have custody of 2 or 3 of them, and is receiving public assistance for 2 of the however many still live with her. 2 of them are no longer minors. So, while I feel her suit is correct, this was probably the best thing that will ever happen to her.

She has a case I would think, but I agree, that was probably the better of the two outcomes.

I may be weird, but the way I see it is this way. Different circumstances for different people. If this had happened with a married mom of any amount of kids, and not on public assistance, I'd hope the hospital gets whacked with a big settlement.

In this case though, she can't afford the kids she has, has a long history of public assistance, so her reward is she just got that surgery for free!

Yeah the hospital screwed up big time and I suspect will pay through the nose. Too bad she can just use this an excuse to sponge even more off the system. I love working hard so others don't have to. Welfare has to have a time limit to give people an incentive to better themselves. Otherwise you get people like her.

Well, I think she will almost certainly win some kind of settlement against the hospital. It does sound like malpractise (sp?). It appears she was seeking contraception, but ended up with sterilization instead.

I'm not against providing some form of public assistance to people who fall on hard times until they can get back on their feet, but for some people, welfare becomes institutional and generational. This has to stop. There must be some limits to the amount and type of benefits paid and for how long.

I'll go on record as stating that forced sterilization is wrong. Appealing concept, but morally indefenseable.

Agreed that forced sterilization is wrong, and completely indefensible.

Maybe what we should do is make it a choice. If you have more than X number of kids, and you're habitually on welfare, you get it if you want to get any more welfare...

Let them choose what they want.
