Anecdotal evidence seems to show groups like this will scatter once a counter-ambush starts and shots are fired. They might squeeze off a shot or two, but they'll run. I doubt they're disciplined enough or trained well enough to stay in the fight. Video after video of incidents like this on YouTube and elsewhere almost always shows them hauling ass once the good guy starts to shoot back. A few might not but I think the odds are in favor of a victim (or bystander) who puts up an aggressive defense with a gun.

IF the mindset was there. Or even a basic survival instinct. A 2000 lb car trumps even 6, 200 lb attackers. Of course one has to also wrap their head around the mentality of IT'S MY NEW PRIUS! .
