Not the norm for car jacking in this area, at least not YET. I am sorry the mom and daughter had to go through that experience. From the article, it's clear that Josiah McCray, Jurdon Bryant-Beasley, Elrich Haliburton and Nyariee Richardson are pillars of the local community who were just wanting to borrow the vehicle to take their grandmothers to dialysis, with church and community college classes later in the day.

If you shoot the first one, do the rest scatter like roaches, or do they actually press home the attack against an unexpectedly resistive target? Annecdotal data seems to suggest the former rather than the later, but what do you think? Are they really that committed? This gets heatedly debated on other forums.

As to rule #1 : Their cars are probably of late enough model that the doors automatically unlock when shifted into park.
And to #2 : They probably didn’t have the mindset to do anything but stare like a deer in high beams at the thugs as they were pulled out of their cars.

On most vehicles lock options are programmable thorough some obtuse combination of key operations combined with some other switch.

Upon receipt of my new [then] 2007 Ridgeline, I immediately programmed the locks to lock when the car is put in gear and NEVER unlock except by explicit operation.

Criminals regardless of race should be dropped into woodchipper. The world is overpopulated and removing cancer is never a negative. Criminals are almost never rehabbed and continue to be a burden on society. Why house and feed them when those resources could be put to better use.
