BREAKING NEWS: Man, 40, is in FBI custody after TSA found an explosive device hidden in the lining of his checked bag as it was being loaded onto an Allegiant flight from Pennsylvania to Florida

    • Mark Muffley, 40, faces charges of possession of an explosive at an airport and possessing/attempting to place an explosive on an aircraft
    • The explosive was concealed in a checked piece of luggage and contained multiple fuses - it triggered an alarm before being loaded onto the plane
    • Muffley was paged over the airport's public system, left the airport, but was arrested at his home in Lansford later that same day

wow, TSA did something good this time! Glad their system/process/alarm (whatever it was) did the job and stopped a tragedy from occurring.

    Even a blind squirrel...

This is a good thing...but it's still pretty hard for me to like anything at all about TSA.

Guarantee it was machine that detected the bomb. Granted TSA employees can be rude & worthless. .mil & .gov can be really detrimental to your health. Fight the good fight!

I'm curious how the components would ignite inside luggage in the cargo hold?

Thanks, I figured as much but it's strange that the articles don't address whether or how it could detonate.

There is a Casio watch that is a favorite of terror bombers. I am betting this was the case. Richard Reid just used a fuse as explosives were hidden in the heel of his shoe. All he had to do was light the fuse. Cargo area is usually pressurized in modern airliners.

    From Allegiant Airlines:

    In-cargo
Due to extreme climatic conditions and reduced air pressure, Allegiant Airlines does not provide the provision of pets being transported as checked baggage or in cargo.

That tells me cargo area pressured is not the same passenger cabin pressurized.
