    Default Hammer Bounce

I was shooting .357s today and filming the fireballs on my phone. In the picture below, it looks like the hammer is half-cocked. Is this due to recoil? That's the only thing I can think of.

They weren't especially spicy rounds. 15gr of H110. The recoil wasn't bad at all but the picture has my interest.

The gun is used Colt Trooper made in 1974. Of the 25 rounds I shot, one failed to fire. It looked like a light hammer strike and popped off the second time. I also shot 50 .38s and had no problems.

I wasn't using slow motion on the camera and only filmed one cylinder. Now I'm going to have to try it again.

Interesting. Since cell phones are not really great at speed and don't have a shutter, I am going to guess it is just rolling shutter. I get it on my Canon when I am shooting high speed stuff with with at the highest rates.

That link helps explain things. When I look at the video frame by frame, it looks like the gun fires before the hammer falls.

Even though unintended, cool effects on the guitar strings. (In the link….)
