Default LGS that honors C&R law?

I?ve been on the hunt for a few guns that are 50-80 years old at this point, qualifying them for BATF C&R status (no background check required). I?ve called a few stores around - not a single store will sell an 80 year old gun without a background check.. what?s the point of the Feds making this law if nobody will honor it?

IIRC that's for a FTF transaction, not through a ffl. If a ffl sells any type of firearm BGC is mandatory, well for the ones doing it by the book.

An ffl can sell to a C&R with no bg check, just a copy of their license. For example, Big 5 and Dicks used to do it all the time back when they carried surplus.

There are one or two shops in the springs that will accept it, but most ffls simply don't understand how a C&R works and don't want to mess with it. In my limited experience...

Some of the sellers on Gun Broker actually know how to handle it.
There is a search category for C&R eligible firearms on the site.
Other than that, I spent two hours educating and sent copies of all of the applicable statutes to a seller locally.
He still could not understand, so off to an FFL for a Background Check.
First question asked by the FFL was why didn't you just sell it as a C&R since the buyer has a license.

I'm getting the vibe that the OP does not have a C&R license but is simply trying to buy a C&R eligible firearm from an FFL which as someone previously stated FFLs still need to do background checks but ftf does not.

I hadn't considered it from that perspective. That would fit the question quite well.

You are correct. I do not hold a C&R license, and i’m looking at FFLs. I was not aware FFLs were legally required to sell Antiques via 4473

There is a HUGE legal difference between C&R firearms (older than 50 years and in original configuration) and genuine antique firearms (1898 or older). If I were you, I would hit the books a bit to avoid issues.

Just apply for a C&R license, then you can just order what you want shipped to your door.

If the seller understands the C&R and is willing to do it.
I have run into a lot of Gun Broker sellers, with FFL's, that will not sell or ship to C&R Licensee.
I always have to ask before I bid.
I too misunderstood the Original Post.
I thought the OP had a C&R License.
