Bummer. I saw this the other day but didn't react to it at the time. I was born in the same hospital (many decades later) in Scottsbluff, Nebraska as him and grew up in the same small town of 1,500 people in which he lived: Mitchell. My grandma was the accountant for Frank Implement (John Deere dealership) which he also worked for in the 70's.
My single mother was a bar tender my entire childhood so, needless to say, I grew up in bars. One of my fondest memories as a kid was feeding quarters into the juke box (after begging the patrons for them) and playing Bon Jovi on repeat. I was always inconsolable when they would unplug the blaring machine so that some guy could perform live with his buddies. I would learn years later who that was and just how special some of these performances truly were, even if I hated them at the time because it interrupted my beloved Bon Jovi. lol.
Lots of fun stories and memories that took place around this person around that timeframe who embodied small town Nebraska and didn't let the success of fame go to his head. To say he was probably the most famous person from that town is probably a pretty safe claim. That said, he was a better man than he was a musician and most know how good of a musician he was.
I've been playing "Take it to the Limit" here and there since Thursday. Rest easy Randy.
I'm not fat, I'm tactically padded.
