    Default Gun and Ammo Tax

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cal...chool-security

California lawmakers on Thursday voted to raise taxes on guns and ammunition to pay for security improvements at public schools and gun violence prevention programs. California's proposed tax, if it becomes law, would be 11%- matching the highest tax imposed by the federal government on guns.

Coming to Colorado if it is deemed Constitutional. If not look for an ammo only tax to but put forth.

The 2nd amendment says nothing about ammunition.

It is nice to see additional funding proposed for "gun violence prevention programs". They have worked so well in the past...

If it comes to Colorado, they will call it a fee.
That way it does not have to go to the ballot.

    Don't worry.

Colorado lawmakers will put it in place, constitutional or not.

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this claim right now.

When did any government in recent history ever use tax funds for what they claimed the funds would be used for? This will be no different.

On a side note, virtually every "tax for xxxxxxx" is a government loophole. We all know that, but few knows how it works:

This is how it works: Everything that is technically "for the kids/schools" (pot tax, etc), sure, it is appropriated for schools and added to their budget.

But, they usually reduce the education general fund appropriation by the e.g. the exact same amount.

Boom, now the same amount of taxes appropriated "for the kids" is now in the general fund, and they can use it to pay for gay pride crosswalks and "Colorado loves California" day, raises, and money for transient programs that is given to business operated by their cousins.

Nothing improves for their target (which is always why more tax increases are needed "for the kids"). But they technically comply with their mandates.

    It was signed into law.

The law says the first $75 million of that money must go to the California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program. The next $50 million would go to the State Department of Education to boost security at public schools.

The remainder will go to the general fund as noted above.

Well CO did such an outstanding job giving all the pot tax to schools. How could this "tax" fail? :-)

Lotteries fixed schools nationwide decades ago, and still have enough money leftover to advertise heavily in neighborhoods where welfare is the largest source of income

I am not smart enough to edit the "title"
