Wink Where to buy real surplus ammo cans and what do they cost nowadays?

Specifically, I'm looking mostly for 30-cal and maybe a few other sizes. Some of the old .45s would be great... There used to be a dealer with a great inventory and awesome prices in CoS, but I don't remember his name or location. Any recommendations for local sources? I suspect that on-line, the shipping will cost more than the can...

The military surplus store at 36 & Pecos typically has a selection, along with Jax Outdoors in Lafayette. The Jax store even had some WWII style .50 cal cans a few weeks ago. Other Jax stores may also have cans.

Wasn't he called the Ammo Can Man? I seem to recall seeing his web site.

I have had good luck finding cans up to 20mm/30mm at the surplus store on Broadway and Hampden. They always seem to have a good stock.

Down River Equipment in Wheat Ridge has them. Very popular with whitewater rafters. The nicer ones are refurbished with epoxy coating and new gaskets. But also stock surplus available.

That rings a bell as well with me. I did a quick google search, and there is/was a guy in the springs:

Ebay has a seller listed as ammocanman that seems to have decent prices:

Harbor Freight had some knockoffs in the store. I looked at them and, honestly, they looked pretty dang good. Good gasket, good seal and solid. They were $13.99 here for the .50 cal cans.

This site might be of interest, too. No idea what shipping charges are.

Last place I bought cans was at Acedmey, when they had some blow out prices (I think $8/each) with free shipping. Their price on the 50 cal seems market. https://www.academy.com/search?searchTerm=ammo%20can

I have a handful of milsurp cans as well as the Harbor Freight ones, and I can't tell difference other than the paint. The HF ones are good to go.

The guy in C. Springs name was Rick, I called him Ammo Can Rick. He bought and sold all kinds of Gov surplus stuff from the bases down there, not just cans. Haven't beeen there in years, I kinda think he's not there anymore. Used to always find him on Craigslist, had a big location on Austin Bluffs Parkway. (719) 314-9518
