I'm sure you could find a good one used for under $1000. New you can go up as high as you want. Either way you'll have a wider range of choices in rifles/uppers.

Rocky moutain shooters supply on Mulbery has one of the rem AR in 243. I didnt look at the price sorry but they do have one.

Ok, 243 is great for yotes, and other vermin...I would push for something in a fal platform. DSA has some good gear:

Whether fal or ar, both are good, don't forget about a browning bar or remmy 7400. In your shoes, looking for a 243...get the dsa! I own 2 in 308 and want a third in 243 to burn up some barrels.
