It is likely a "drive by wire" throttle instead of mechanical- meaning a computer operates the throttle valve based on pedal position.
I am tempted to blame good old British electrical systems but Bentley is owned by Volkswagon and there aren't a lot of stories about Jettas rocketing themselves through structures due to computer error.
Hell, aren't ALL modern vehicles controlled by electronic throttles? As in, no more cables or mechanical linkages? That's why I bought a Pedal Commander for my Silverado, to tune throttle response.
