Default 14 Million Guns Sold in 2023

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/n...ast-14-million

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the industry representative that adjusts FBI background check data to estimate gun sales, said that there were 1,595,476 sales last month. The group said earlier that there were 214,913 guns sold on Black Friday alone, a new high for the day known for Christmas sales and buying.

For the year, the group estimates sales at 14,072,224.

1.6 million last month. I thought I had a problem...

Someone said the US has 120 guns for every 100 people. And all I can think of is: ?great that?s only 40 out of a hundred that could do a 3 gun match?. We can do better folks!

"14 million" is only the number of background checks, which most states do not require for private party sales.

sadly I feel like I didn't hold up my end of the deal this year. Sadly only bought one shotgun this year, that the feds know about
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

True but those aren't new guns on the market.. The 14 million is probably mostly new guns.

Yep was just about to post this. F t F sales would be guns already in civilian hands. Any new gun being sold will require a BGC unless it's being sold to Law Enforcement.

Of course, a lot of those BGC's were also "used" guns being sold by dealers and/or sold in states like CO where private transactions are illegal. So certainly not all of those 14 million were new.

My pull-it-out-of-my-4th-point-of-contact guess is that probably ~60% of those BGCs are on new guns. I'm sure there's someone in the Firearms Industry who can give a better estimate on what percentage of new guns are sold vs. "pre-owned" guns but 60% is my guess.

So that means maybe 8.5 million new guns in civilian hands.

The statistic that would be of more interest to me is: How many guns are being sold to people who have never owned guns before? I'd be curious to know that, even though I know there's no way to actually track that.

Lot more than people realize. We do a Find Your Gun, last sunday of the month. Average turnout is 2-6, depending on weather, what other plans they have and.. it's sunday so some folks are church going all day.

Anyway. We have Tombstone Tactical out for this event to answer questions people have. How much, availability etc. The numbers we see buying from TT are 75% of people they talked with buy within the month, if not sooner. The other local FFL also see new gun purchases as a result of the FYG.

Basic handgun classes are an average of 5 new gun owners per month, double that in the warmer weather months, who then continue on to other training classes. 40% of the shooters at the range are women. Shooting anything from a lcp to tricked out Staccatos and everything in between.
