Entry level AR quality

I went and looked at a few AR's today at a couple shops. I see a few 9n the $700-$800 range by DPMS, Delton, Smith etc. In that range what would be the best bang for the buck? I am looking for a cheaper entry level rifle, flat top, collapsable stock and other then that I can upgrade later. Thanks.

You can have a rifle kit ordered to spec if you head over to del-ton's site. If you're just looking for something to start out with I'd troll the used firearms listings here or at arfcom and You may come across a nice used ar for a new entry level ar price. You could also look into cmmg, they make a nice ar for the money (IMO) and you don't have to pay over $1k to own one. I think aimsurp has a complete del-ton in stock for under $700.

well im a homer but i built my first two ar's as del-ton kits and love them. one is still a stock carbine, and the other i have consistently been upgrading to an spr type. ive never had a problem with any of them. but id really hesitate to buy a completed rifle. you can buy a kit and if you use a superior arms lower or really even a del-ton lower, you are looking at around, and possibly under, $600. im not sure if youve ever built a rifle but its CAKE. i didn't know a single thing about ar's, just watched a youtube video on how to build it and was careful and like an hour later it was done. this is with a completed upper though of course

I have decided to get an AR for coyote and a bolt for deer, instead of getting a larger caliber AR. so I am just looking for a cheap beat around rifle. I have owned Bushmaster, Olympic arms, and DPMS. And shot Colts etc. But I have never had a Delton. I found some DPMS's right at $700 new. Maybe I will go that route?

one thing you may want to look into, and i have no idea the answer, is what both customer services are like. i know del-ton's is very reputable because they are a smaller company. haven't heard anything on dpms before. sometimes that can be a deciding factor

Del Tons are supposed to be a really good value for the price.

that's still under $700 even after the transfer fee from an ffl to you. If you want to save more coin and have a little fun, build one. For $486.90 Delton will ship a rifle kit (to Thornton, co) and all you have to do is find a stripped lower for $100-$120 (maybe less if you look hard enough) and build it.

either one of the above should suit your needs, I have 9 ar's, everything from one I built from a box of spare parts, to a colt 6920le, and honestly none of them work any better than the other. I have 2 of the cmmg's bargin bin models, and they have been great rifles. when I got them they looked no different than any other one I bought new, and paid twice as much for...

when i built my del-ton carbine i used a superior arms lower that was $85 at aimsurplus.com for what its worth
