    Default Supplemental Firearms Theft/Damage Insurance

This was brought up in the 50 gun theft thread, but I wanted to start a separate discussion on firearms insurance. As Cha Lee perfectly said in the other thread, "Everyone here needs to ask themselves honestly if their insurance coverage would fully cover their belongings if their house burned to the ground and it was a total loss scenario. If its not identified, appraised and documented the insurance company can easily tell you to stick it when a total loss event happens."

That being said, for those that have a supplemental policy, or have taken steps with an existing policy, what companies have you used? Did you have to give a list/values for the insured items with SNs? I know some carriers advertise coverage without requiring SNs--and I suppose it's on you to validate and document the value of your items.

Any recommendations? Pros? Cons? Headaches you've encountered?

I’ve got Collectibles Insurance. No need to provide them a list but I keep pictures of everything. I only tell them the total value of what I want to insure.

I have had Collectibles Insurance for a couple of decades.
I went with them, when there were other competitors, because I had a friend that got full market value compensation when his pistol was stolen from his car.
They are also 1776 Insurance Services - in fact that was who handled my latest renewal.
They no longer require itemization unless it meets a threshold value.
I have never made a claim, so I can't describe how they make payments.
My rates were discounted with the size and location of my safe, the location of a camera, and connection to an alarm company.
The newest thing with 1776 is they cover ammunition and theft on the way to the range or hunting.
Best thing is to communicate with an agent.

I have Collectibles insurance too. They cover other valuable things like coins, toy collectibles and baseball cards.

I use Lockton Affinity. $250 deductible. Covered home, away, in transit, and acts of terrorism. No serial numbers, but firearms over $2500, they do want listed. For me, the policy and coverage was the decider. It's a little more than Collectables Insurance, but for me it was worth it.

Collectables is about $8/1K and Lockton is about $11/1K annually. I did not insure to full value with Lockton, because I have some through homeowners, NRA and my Instructor Insurance as well.

Collectibles here too, had a policy with them for many years.

Excellent coverage for the price, no inventories / appraisals below a certain value, and they cover ammo and reloading supplies as well as items in transit and while traveling.

I kicked the tires a little and got a call this morning. Spent 15 minutes answering questions. The ammo and reloading supplies have become a factor, and as such, I might switch when my LA policy expires.

    I'll look into it, thanks.
