As far as "uppity" shoe goo... But my Huberd's from the hardware store and George Perry, of Perry's Shoe and Boot Repair" recommended Skidmore's.
A little aside, Skidmore's makes a good wood finish. Bee's wax, turpentine and boiled linseed oil is all that's in it.

One pair, bought in September for the new school year. Usually a size or two too big so they would last the full year.
