Default Does your dog watch TV?

We've owned several dogs and without exception, they have all ignored what is on the TV screen. Now, if a TV program or commercial features a loud doorbell, they will always bark and run to the door, but I think that's understandable since they can't tell the difference between a real doorbell and one that's on TV.

But then we got this little crazy monster Mini Aussie named Loki and he gets mesmerized whenever there is an animal on TV. Even horses - we were watching the Netflix movie "Mustang" and he kept intently watching the screen whenever there were horses on it.

If there are dogs on the screen he will watch with his little nub of a tail wagging back and forth. It's super funny to watch. Like even if a dog barks on TV he will sit up and look at the TV screen.

So any other TV watching dogs out there?

Growing up, my parents Boxers and Bouvier Des Flanders couldn't give two rips about what was on the TV, outside of doorbells like yours.

My brothers Aussie was the same as Loki. Animals on the TV were the most interesting thing ever.

That Aussie, Yogi, was one of the most expressive dogs I have ever been around. I hope you guys get the same entertainment that we had with him.

I have tried to get Popcorn to look at it but she has no interest, even the squirrels on youtube videos. I have read the screen needs a 60 Hz or greater refresh rate for the dog to see it clearly.

There is one commercial for cat food that will have her off the couch barking as soon as it comes on and she hears the cats meow. It is the only thing I have found that she pays attention to.

While I don't have any dog's, my daughters dog watches TV. Even when they don't think she's aware of what's on TV, as soon as another dog (even a cartoon dog) appears on the screen, the doberman mix goes batshit crazy; jumping and spinning, etc.

Reba the GSD will go to the TV looking to comfort a person who is crying, especially a child or infant. She will come to alert sometimes if a dog on tv barks/whines/vocalizes.

TV doorbell sends her to back door barking and we don't even have a doorbell on our house.

Yup, my last pup Ziva-she passed a year ago December-would sit next to me and frequently pay attention to whatever I had on, pretty funny.

Maddie likes dogs and animals on TV, she also really loved the Grinch for some reason. My wife had her watching figure skating but I put a stop to that lol. She likes sounds and motion on the TV.

The two newest pups will both watch certain things on TV. No rhyme or reason for what catches their eye and they don't always get attracted to the same thing. The little girl (Maddie), especially, will watch quite intently sometimes.

Izzy, the oldest, barks like crazy at TV/video doorbells and of course that gets everyone else all wound up. Like @buffalobo we don't even have a doorbell and never have since Izzy's been around. I have no idea what made her start alerting to that noise.

None of my pups have ever paid any attention to the TV.
