I'm late to this party and although I was LMAO for the first few posts due to all the cooking talk, etc. on a firearm focused forum (not going to lie, I love to cook) I do have a little serious input.
Our first child is now 9 months old...a girl. Loving it. But I seriously agree with Stuart's post above. We are insured but did get to see the bill to the insurance company. $26k for all the standard baby related appointments, delivery, etc. On top of all that, my wife had some complications (not uncommon) after the birth that required surgery and set the insurance company back another $45k. With insurance...cost us $1,000. Un-taxed because we set it aside in a health savings account first.
So, insurance is a good idea if you plan on having a baby. The good news is that when you start a new job that offers good insurance, pregnancy normally doesn't count as a pre-existing condition. The bad news is I think FMLA benefits don't start unless you have been at your job for 12 months.
Back on the original topic though...still working on my wife to get her to get me gun stuff as gifts. She is still a little uncomfortable and worries she will get me the wrong stuff no matter how many times I tell her I love anything that has to do with firearms, ANYTHING. I keep a "wish list" on MidwayUSA so she can just get ideas from there. Although, she has plenty of time to get comfortable because she keeps reminding me I am stuck with her forever and depending on your thoughts on the afterlife, that's another good 60 years at the least. I see a lot of new toys in my future.
