I knew many bouncers who *hypothetically* carried a set... because possession is illegal in most places due to widespread misuse (same with saps, which were often more effective than a baton but typically did less damage and provided far better optics to bystanders). Never saw any of those bouncers hit anyone with them. The advice I gave pertaining to their use was relayed to me by scholars who researched the history of them (apparently cast iron knucks were very popular on both sides during the Civil War), martial artists who practiced extensively with soft trainer versions, and guys who make custom versions for sale to collectors. Then there are the punks who buy the $10 zamak belt buckle versions at flea markets to commence whalin on folks at the nightclubs. A good custom set can run someone over $200, and it's important that they *hypothetically* fit one's hand correctly or they can and will damage their fingers. It's a lot better than that silly Kubotan keyring that was so popular during the late 70s... but I'd never carry anything like that... really cool paperweight though (hypothetically).
