Default Allergy relief for the Brave!

Not sure about anyone else but this allergy season is starting out to be an ass-kicker, or at least I'm feeling it more. Much more 'worn out' than in the past.

It reminds me of a true story I listened to about 5 years ago on NPR (so you know it's true!) about a guy that suffered severe allergies for years and his cure. I think he lived on the East coast, either way, he remembered in the early spring, every year, it started as an itch in the eye and turned into 3-4 months of allergy misery, years after year. Like a chronic sinus infection. I think it happened 20 + years ago, he went to doctors, did tests, and tried drugs tried everything.

This is where it gets kind of gross.

He somehow found out that the natural histamines in your body, which are released to battle pollen, etc., while making your life a living hell in the meantime, could be tricked by another 'invader' in the body. From what I understand, your symptoms you get are from your body's histamines attacking the pollen, not the pollen itself. Anyway, his 'research' showed that a parasite could be just the answer. If introduced to the human body, the immune system would attack the parasite and leave the pollen alone. Choosing a parasite: not sure how, but he came up with a Hookworm, of course! Long story short, he ended up taking a trip to Central America, took a cab, and found a 'plywood sided latrine' in the countryside. They stopped, he got out, took off his shoes and walked through the muck in the outhouse.

Sure enough, he picked up Hookworm and his symptoms did a 180, life was good. He ended up 'harvesting' some of the parasites and sent them to other allergy sufferers he had contact with. The reviews were promising. He ended up selling them to help out other people,...... until the FDA got wind of it.

He ended up moving to Canada and still sells his...stuff,... where it is legal. I think I'll stick with nasal rinse and local honey thank you!

Hard pass. I suffered from allergies for years. Really bad. Then one day I didn’t. Can’t explain it, but I’m now almost immune to allergens.

    Maybe I have Hookworm.

I know what you mean, growing up in Midwest Nebraska, I was cursed with allergies as a kid. Moved out here and things were better, till now!
Things change with age and climate. Guess we just have to adapt.

Default Beware of a yeast sinus infection

My understanding is that a COVID infection can make you much more sensitive to allergens than in past years. The other problem is the US southwest region is very high in fungal spore count. If prescribed antibiotics and steroids for post COVID complications, the conditions will be ripe for a fungal sinus infection. Even most otolarynologists are clueless of this condition.
Untreated invasive fungal sinusitis is almost always fatal.

I'll stick with my bi-weekly allergy shots.

That is actually totally legit. Works for asthma too.

Most people exhibit no symptoms of hookworm infestation... but when they do, it can cause stomach cramps, constant diarrhea, and internal bleeding... all of which are a "negative outcome."

Not much different from a doctor prescribing highly toxic medication when they feel the benefits outweigh the health risks and side effects.

Glad I don't have allergies or asthma, lol.

There's allergies, and then there is full autoimmune like lupus. A friend of mine has lupus, and she did this treatment, though a lot easier. You can order the worms online and just inject into a bicep or thigh muscle.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helminthic_therapy has the details.

A lot is based on the hygiene hypothesis, which is that so many allergies and autoimmune diseases occur because your body has this great immune system, that for millions of years evolved to fight these parasites and other things that everyone just had. Now, kids are brought up too damn clean, we've instead set our immune systems against ourselves since it has to attack something. Those of you with kids, you should take them outside and feed them dirt.

That Helminthic Therapy site is eye-opening for sure. I guess were talking about Nematodes, gut worms.

Great Punk Rock band name, "The Nematodes".
