Cool Poor conduct by armed security guard

So this afternoon I stopped by a LCS (local convenience store) to grab a snack on the way to my daughter's 4H event. When I entered the checkout queue, customer 1 (older white male) was finishing his transaction and continued to banter with the clerk. Impatient customer 2 (middle-age white male) said something when customer 1 left, which agitated the security guard (middle-age black male). When customer 2 finished his transaction and started leaving, the guard became engaged in an extended escalating swearing match with customer 2 that seemed to be building to an incident. Fortunately after a bit, while I was at the counter, customer 2 seemed to had enough and left the property. The clerk recognized my displeased facial expression and apologized under his breath that they have no control over the guards. On my way out, I calmly told the guard he need to do better and must set the example for conduct. Of course, that was not well received, including the "Call my boss and get me fired. I don't need this job..." refrain. He is the kicker- the guard was armed (interestingly with a Gen 1 Ruger P95) and displaying an RTD Security badge (with photo) on his gun belt. Bottom line up-front is the this individual is an unstable hothead and does not have the temperament to be armed security at convenience store. I have already been on the phone with the local PD (who are stopping by) and RTD (why is somebody moonlighting with your badge displayed?). Thoughts? Yes- I know they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel to hire for these positions and yes, it may not have been smart of me to admonish an armed asshat, but sometimes the old Army O3 just comes out.

Maybe the convenience store needs someone exactly like that to keep the rats out? I mean it is a bit of a self correcting problem, no? I suppose I don’t blame you for calling him out if he’s a dangerous hot head. Sometimes that’s all they need to hear.

Oh, there is no doubt that this LCS is dirtbag central, and sometimes it seems the staff are just one rung up the ladder from clientele base who causes the problems. This issue with this guy is that the impatient customer was leaving with a few muttered comments and the guard chose to re-engage/escalate with zero justification.

No, good on you for saying something................ armed or not he needed that discussion.
Yes, of course not knowing the details, it is odd he would display an RTD ID card................
He would need to have his "Armed Security ID" card visible and it is required............... not an RTD one.
Hopefully ? maybe? between the calls you made, he'll have his wish granted and not work there.

    That's crazy.

10-1 that guard is a recently divorced alcoholic ready to snap.

He needs to be terminated immediately. You do not provoke and escalate a customer who is LEAVING THE STORE, and you certainly do not use profanity while doing so.

That's not just unacceptable, it's dangerous... sounds like a future mass shooter right there.

On a related note, if your local convenience store needs armed security maybe you should rethink the community you choose to call home?

The general problems at the store usually all stem from it being in a concentrated vagrancy zone, and not the actual local residents. It's nowhere near my neighborhood.

Pretty sure I know which LCS you are talking about. Quit going there because of all the beggars.
