    Default Missing in shipment

I bought back a gun I sold to an out of state buyer. His ffl used USPS priority mail to send it to my receiving ffl. It was supposed to arrive 10/17. Tracking shows no location change since last week, listed as ?in transit to next location?. I started a service request with USPS yesterday the 22nd. I?m told to wait 3 days for more information.

If it doesn?t turn up is the shipping dealer required to notify ATF? In all the years of having dealers send/receive this is a first but every other time they?ve used either FedEx or UPS.

I had a long gun sent to MA, years ago. Tracking showed it out for delivery, for 2 days. I called ups who told me, well there's a possibility there might be a glitch with the tracking update. Told her, well that glitch is a firearm, which if we do not have an answer where it is within the next hour, i'm sure you'd be happy to explain to the ATF where that glitch happened. 40 min later they found the glitch, sitting on the truck.

Every shipping company wants you to jump through hoops to ship or receive a firearm. But when it comes to tracking it within their system, they don't care.

I read somewhere all mail is photographed by USPS. It will probably show up.

Yes, technically the loss is on the part of the shipper. He/She would need to begin the reporting process, not you.

Thanks, the shipping dealer and I communicated briefly yesterday. He called a postal inspector and was told a ticket had already been opened, I told him yup that was me. I really hope it shows up, nothing terribly special but it was one I regretted selling and was thrilled when the buyer agreed to sell it back.

I recall a post on here from maybe a year ago about a similar problem, but it was resolved because the shipper had put an apple tag in it and it was traced to the back of a UPS warehouse. Clever I thought.

Pretty common for any package that comes in through the Denver sorting facility to sit for weeks at a time. I'm at about 50/50 with receiving packages in a timely manner via USPS over the past couple years. I swear that the packages come in on the trucks or planes and some guy pushes a bin in to the corner and goes on break and never puts the bin back in line. Eventually someone else comes along a month later and looks at a bin sitting in the corner and decides to push it back in to the line and suddenly out of nowhere your package arrives the next day.

I recently had a package arrive at Colorado Springs. It was sent to Denver. Then it went back to Colorado Springs. Then it came to Pueblo. It took a long time sitting too. Everything federal is slow and a disappointment.

Until I moved here I always preferred using USPS over any other shipping method. FedEx Ground was the absolute worst. But the PO in Ada, OK (my servicing PO) has got to be the worst in the history of mail. I bet I've filed 2 dozen complaints or more over lost mail since we moved here a little less than 3 years ago. It's been so bad I've contacted my US representative and both senators about the crappy service. (I know...wishful thinking the government will do anything about the government) Nothing's changed. They still suck.

We had similar experience with local postmaster when moved out to the prairie. She retired about 5 yrs later and service has been much better.
