By the end of the movie I didn't see any.

    Highlight for spoilers below.

At the end the Bible is placed on a shelf next to a Koran, a Torah and I think at least one other religious text. So I don't think the message of the movie was that the Bible was going to help rebuild civilization, but rather that the people at Alcatraz were trying to preserve humankind's culture.

I suppose there's the argument for the idea that Denzel was being guided by God which is how he could fight (and shoot) so well, but without a second viewing I think most of the times he did something that made you assume he was sighted it was based on one of his other senses (hearing and smell especially).

I agree with your hidden text. It looks totally bad ass, but when you think about it for a while, his problem becomes more apparent when you closely examine some of his actions. But certain things HAD to be devine intervention. Spoiler below

I thought that the first shot missed him completely and the second clipped his backpack or hit his machete (were there sparks?). It's something I would have to watch again, I think at the time I was more concerned about someone sitting nearby who kept breaking wind

Anyway, it was a good movie (I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic films - The Road was similar but MUCH better) and fortunately subtext only really bothers me if it's too heavy-handed which this wasn't.

I just about went blind tring to read the hidden text here but , I think your right about seeing sparks! Well with that said I liked it alot. We took our 25 and 23 year old and their girlfriend & boyfriend to see it together. We had a nice chat afterwords and they all knew what was going on except me. I was pretty much blind to what was happening until the very end!

Okay, I haven't seen the movie yet but I really want to see this and already plan to get it when it comes out on DVD,but...

I love the way you folks hid the spoiler text. I could see that there was something there and assumed that you were using white text to camoflauge it. Great idea (I didn't read any of the spoilers BTW).

So, for those of you who have read the book, is it worth the read?

The book in the movie, or the book "The Book of Eli"?

Whoops, sorry. I should have been more specific.

Has anyone read the novelization of "The Book of Eli"? If so, was it a good read?

There. That seems like a better worded question.
