Default April 1st Prop KK 6.5% Firearms and Ammo Excise Tax

Unfortunately, not an April Fools joke. How do you guys see this playing out? Gun shop employees and owners I have spoken with say their point-of-sale system will just add 6.5% to firearms, ammo, and firearm parts. With margins so small as it is for small and medium-sized firearm stores (not Cabela's, Sportman's Warehouse, etc), how will this not drive many out of business? As it is already, you have to go out of your way to pay more (vs online sales) to support local shops. I'm confident it's all part of the CO liberals master plan.

Although technically out-of-state company online sales will be required to collect the 6.5% tax and submit to CO, I am fairly certain that many will not, especially at first.

The cost of firearm transfers is already ridiculous at most shops. I know there are still a few here and there that have maintained reasonable rates, but others... Centennial Gun Club charges $150 for transfers + $15 CBI = $165 DaFuq?! "But sir, the Ruger LCP I purchased on GunBroker only cost me $140." With less competition, we will only see prices across the board increase.

And I'm not even contemplating SB25-003 passing and becoming law. Firearms and firearms related activities in CO will very soon become a rich man's hobby/sport.

I forgot about this being enacted so soon.

I guess I need to get a pile of primers and a few jugs of powder this month.

    OP:
I certainly agree with you, it's not good.

I'm not sure how this will affect buyers/small shops though.
What I mean is the average first time buyer probably wont know about it, so not outraged. So the 500$ Glock now costs 532.50.
But I'd assume the seasoned buyer will avoid it out of principle. So buy places like here or at a show from someone that falls under the exemptions.
That's what I'll do........ not that I'm in the market for anything, but if need be, I'll find a way to, legally, not pay it.

Avoid the 6.5% tax and pay $50-$80 for the transfer fee and CBI bgc because I only know a handful of personal sellers that don't require that. But I hear you, Oscar.

We aren't in a good spot here, again I agree with you.
That wouldn't apply to ammunition/component purchases.
    And some firearms are C/R.
    Pick your poison...............and your principle.

Oh and dont use a credit card, dont forget the tracking.

A bit off topic- Does Sportsman's Warehouse do price matching?

Scheels has CFE223 powder for $51 a pound. Sportsman's has it at $57. I don't want to drive to the Springs to save six bucks but if I buy primers, it's worth it.

Scheels CCI 400 SRP $75 vs. $90 at SW.
