    Default What ballistics app?

I have an android phone and I have been using the Shooter App.
There hasn't been an update available for years and I wonder if there's something better out there.
It must be able to store data for multiple rifles, some rifles with multiple loads.
Ideally have a GPS setting for altitude and (approximate) wind speed.
Needless to say it must be able to calculate corrections in MOA and MIL, for elevation and windage.
    What is everyone using?

Hornady 4DOF works and is free. I use that one in my classes for that reason. It's slightly clunky, but gives good data. Applied Ballistics Quantum is pretty legit. The "good" version was free to me because I have a Kestrel with AB, and there might be some cost if you don't have one of those. It would be my first choice if you aren't going to a dedicated Kestrel meter with AB installed. Ballistic AE is my old standby. I know it the best of all of them, and use it regularly for a sanity check

    Shooter!!!!

Its $10 for IOS & Android
Works great and will get you on target (with good inputs)
If you begin to "out-shoot" Shooter, we can revisit and spend more of your money
The bullet selection is kinda dated, but you can manually add them as needed.
For 1200y and in, it's the money
    Interface is good too
Only time I use something something different is for ELR or 22lr
Definitely my go to and my "north star". If thing started getting wonky, I will use Shooter for reference (it's JBM under the hood)
If your post count is higher than your round count, you are a troll.

    Funny you would mention that:
I'm having problems with my 22lr.
The elevations calculated by Shooter are excessive and my shots are up to a couple of inches high at 100yds (25 yds zero).
Granted, it's crappy ammo, but it groups (mostly) pretty decently, just higher than it should.

I use Applied Ballistics for ELR and 22lr
I purchase AB years ago, so I am grandfathered in now. I think it was $20-$30

It is now a much, much bigger app and can be slow on an old phone. They have had issues with the new version. I actually had a support case with them. Support nerds were good! That being said it is being actively developed, nobody else seem to be trying anymore. They keep adding features and fixing bugs. Good on AB. Good people too. However, it's a lot, and one wrong setting and your are making expensive holes in the ground. I was exporting and printing dope cards, because I couldn't trust it in the field at first. That being said, they keep improving it. They have training videos to help too. With good inputs, it's a pretty good solution. Key thing is to verify it matches your actual dope. Write down your actual dope/impacts and tweak the program to match (bc/velocity/drops/etc) best you can. Turn off Coreolis and Aerodynamic jump, at least initially and for sure with rimfire. I wont mess with that stuff until +1600 or further.

Rimfire is it own monster. Just try to get the calculator close. Close at each distance +/-. Then shoot and document reality.

Better yet, go to Hoser's match. After 1 match you will have tons of verified data and experience.

And temperature change with 22lr can eat your lunch. Morning dope vs afternoon dope :P

    Yeah, I found out...
I chronographed my ammo at 1200 fps but in order to match reality I have to input like 1400fps...
Now I know what the "velocity calibration" setting is for.
This really messes with my OCD

My kestrel with AB embedded is nearly always spot on with my .22. I always use the AB custom curves vs trying to figure out the right value of BC.

Running a kestrel has been very revealing. Down at the .22 March in Pueblo, I’ve seen my data change by 0.4-0.5 at 225y from the morning to the end of the match. .22’s are very sensitive to DA. A 20 degree charge in ambient temperature can cause havoc if you’re not paying attention.

I downloaded Ballistic AE a while ago. It was free back then? It works good. Or did. It erased my calibers and rifles. Or maybe I did.
