We?ve been keeping 1 extra 65lb bag on hand all year long, for just that reason. That will last for 3 weeks for my pups. When the new bag comes in, we open the stored bag so that we rotate stock.

Any food in particular that you?re unable to find?

Anybody use or have experience with goggles for their dog?

Reba has Keratitis, she now gets "drops" in her eyes twice a day and vet recommends using goggles to protect from wind and sun.

Looking at Rexspecs after buying a couple cheaper goggles and having fit issues.

Also any training tips to get dog and goggles working together.

I haven?t had that challenge before. Sorry to hear about her eye problems.

General idea on something like this is to slowly get them conditioned to the glasses. Take small steps. Use your sit command. Put the glasses on while she maintains sit. Praise her while she is calm. Then take them off - but only when she is calm. Give a treat if she?s treat motivated. Other dogs will do fine with praise motivation. The goal of this step is to teach her that good things happen when she is calm with the glasses on.

Make sure you end each session on one of the times she does it right. No need for negative reinforcement yet. You?re trying to teach her that calm is good. Keep the sessions short. A couple minutes a few times a day. It might take a week for her to understand calm.

Once that concept is down, you move forward. You can use a simple no if she needs corrected about calmness, because she should now know that you want calm when wearing glasses. The next step is to start to associate wearing the goggles with the stuff she loves to do. It doesn?t have to be outdoors stuff. Just do something she loves to do, and do it wearing the glasses. If she loves to go for a walk, put the glasses on. When she?s on, tell her it?s time for a walk. Keep sessions short at first. Make sure she is beginning to associate the glasses with a walk.

After that goal is accomplished, start working on literacy. She knows glasses for a walk, but she needs to learn it in new situations. Go take a car ride to DQ and get a pup cup. Go to the park. Fetch a ball. Let her sunbathe in the backyard with them. Keep practicing the same principles in new situations.

Don?t be afraid to back up a step if she resists. You might even have to revisit the calm sit once in a while to maintain literacy.

That would be my approach from my limited experience.

We think about our pet future as well, and good thing we did. We give her Eukanuba large, adult, chicken. Chewy has not had it in stock for over six weeks now. We paid $60 for 33 lb bag and had it on auto fill until they ran out of it. Found it on amazon for $118 from thieves. Thankfully the nice rep at Euk turned us on to Farm and Fleet. Four bags just shipped today.

Yeah, dog food has been constrained, like everything else in the Covid world. It's difficult to just change a dogs food at the drop of a hat. On you and the dog.

I had to chuckle about the training instructions for dog goggles, aka doggles. My 2 year-old GSD doesn't understand "calm" in pretty much all situations. He has a state of "Guard dog reporting for Duty!" and "Sleeping like a log." He can transition those states extremely rapidly. On his timing.

FYI - I?m not recommending dog food advisor for the content they provide, but I do use their notification for dog food recalls. Heads-up if your feeding Fromm cans.

We always stock a few cans of their dietary support formulas in case one of the pups gets a case of the shits.

I am dog proofing my apartment now. My brother just texted that Oreo will be here tomorrow night around 8-8:30, which I would prefer earlier so I get some quality time before the night, but it is what it is.

I did watch some videos on youtube. What do you think of Cesar Millan?



I think I got some good concepts from that video, but I don't think I can set my expectations as high as the results he achieves, but I do think it will help me from a theoretical standpoint.

Also, rather uniquely, I have the $5 spinning steel targets that were the Amazon special on here a few weeks ago. I'm going to set them up tonight and hope they give him some entertainment when I am at work (rather than chewing on my couch.) lol... I wonder if this will work
