One of my old partners was in Haiti when we sent troops there, what...6 years ago? He said the Haitians for the most part didn't go for the Americans criminally. They knew it would bring way too much heat. Things are worse, the reward may now be worth the risk. The Embassy will be well secured in comparison to just about anything else out there. I suspect your biggest risk will be theft. Make sure whoever is sending you supplies all the tools. Don't take your own. I can see that stuff sprouting Nikes and running off regularly. Second risk is probably disease and hygenic food and water. Hand sanitizer is your friend, and don't eat or drink anything from an unknown source.

You sound appropriately concerned. That's a good thing. It will ensure you listen to any info the embassy passes to you once you get there, and alert enough initially to learn the lay of the land. Don't don anything stupid like roaming the streets by yourself and I suspect you will be fine. I also suspect you will learn a lot too. Life is different after you've spent time in poor countries and seen the reality.

Wow that's cool I didn't know carbon fiber could be used for building re-inforcement. Doesn't it have to cure under a vacuum and with heat?

I'll be there with you in a few days as well doing PSD work. As of now, the DoS will not let you bring any firearms into Haiti unless working for DoS. It was suggested to me that I bring appropriate hot wather gear, sunscreen, and plenty of doxycyclene (for malaria). Other than that, books, Charmin, and other comfort items to make the time more pleasant are always a good idea. Battery powered fan is on my list to get today as well as Gallon size bottle of hand sanitizer. Reports from othere there that the stench of the dead is bad in PAP, and leftist Obamanites from USAID and French NATO troops are constantly bashing all Americans and are in control of the supply lines there (and Fu*%ing it up).
