    Default Buying an AR lower

I am in the process of starting to build an AR. My question is, I see that an FFL is required for lowers. Is purchasing one of these the same as buying a gun? Are background checks and registration and everything else the same on a lower as it would be on say a pistol.

Hope this makes sense and isn't a stupid question.

    Thanks

The lower receiver is the serialized piece, so in the eyes of the law, it is the "firearm". All rules apply.

Thanks for the info guys. I wa thinking that's how it worked but just wanted to confirm.

That link says "error" auction expired or something like that.

Thanks for all the help, like always folks. I would really like to find one of these local. I have no problem passing a background check but would rather by FTF.

yep. the stripped lower is the part that counts as a "gun". the rest is just parts.

you can buy one locally from a private party and not require a background check. they pop up now and again. just keep an eye out.
