Extensive training should not be a requirement, but is still a good idea, IMO. The responsibility of carrying is too great to not train for as many eventual scenarios as possible. If you make a mistake, it could cost a life, even your own.

I don't know how to fist fight very well, but you can be damn certain that I'm not going to let some asshole smell and touch my bitch's hair...unlawfully...without giving it a try.

Well of course it's a good idea. No one anywhere has ever said it's not
well ok, I'm sure somewhere someone has said it, but I'm not

I took that class last year also. WASTE of time. Yes, the instructors were nice, but they spent as much time pimping their goods for sale than actually talking about CCW. If you don't need to know anything about guns, just want to get through with your CCW requirement, this is the class for you.

IMHO, this is the kind of thing that gives anti-gun nuts something to shout about. Not that I'm an expert of any sort, but some of the people who went through that class and got "certified" should NOT be carrying a weapon. If we're going to have a program to help ensure that people excercising their 2nd ammendment rights are somewhat "qualified", then there should be a more credible training program. If we're going to do it, let's do it right.

Ooops, went on a rant. Sorry.

If you are looking to save time and money by taking the gun show class you should check out THEPDI.org. When I took it the class was only $75.00 and three hours long.

There were no tips on how to get your Pert sniff fix, but if you email Dan ahead of time I'm sure he could work it in.

I'm a huge advocate of VOLUNTARY training and strongly against MANDATORY training required by the government...at any level. And I make a living teaching CCW classes.

AK and VT have the right idea. WY is on the verge of passing similar legislation. If you're a law abiding person you'll have the right to carry to defend yourself with no permit needed. A permit will be available to WY residents under the proposed legislation for carry in reciprocal states.

Does that mean that those assholes in Wyoming will start accepting CO CCW permits again then?

That proposed change by the WY AG was never put into effect. WY still honors all the permits they did before.
