Default Proposed New Shooting range in southren El Paso county

If you haven't heard, here's the story: http://www.gazette.com/articles/coun...-shooting.html

At first I was a little torn, thinking a nice public range so close to my house would be cool, but then I started thinking:

I know of the area that the county wants to build the range on, and unfortunatley, I live there. Myself, along with many others in the area have purchased new homes behind the Pikes Peak International Raceway.. We moved out here knowing full well that Fort Carson's bombing range was a scant few miles to the west, however, the county had purchased land between Ft carson and us, to use as a buffer zone. Now that Rampart is to remain closed, and because they have caught wind of some of the home owners occasionally going out to said buffer zone and doing a little target practice, they want a piece of the pie, and decided they want to build a range there.

WHich we DO NOT NEED OR WANT. We moved out here to get away from the city, not to have 40,000+ people a year drive down our streets (which btw, is the only access to said property), and we certainly don't want that nice area turning into another Rampart Range trash dump. Myself, and a few other home owners here, do occasionally shoot back there, but we always take out trash with us, and take great care not to damage the area (we made a makeshift range on a hillside, facing AWAY from the housing development). As of yesterday, I assume some county asshat, went back there and took ALL of our stuff, I.E., the nice range table that I built (they smashed it into pieces) Took all of our hay bales and targets, and other things. (It was not crapily thrown about, we had a nice target range, 25, 50, and 100 yds)
I suppose I can't complain since it's technically county owned property, but we have been doing this for years now, and now all of a sudden the county morons want a piece of the pie. Kiss my little secret goodbye I suppose.

I guess it was only a matter of time before they figured out we had a nice little semi-private gun range down here. I understand the need for a public gun range, but they just need to re-open Rampart and pay someone to police it. Either that or open one up in that wasteland property they have out east, where there's no homes.

Is the local city dump in a location that it would be reasonable to suggest they set up a small range there, instead of turning the forest into a dump?

Hmm, that sounds like a shitty situation either way.
I wish they would start listening and re-open rampart. if they are going to go forward with this, then do what you can to make signs and whatnot to make sure the place stays clean and keeps the thugs out.

It would be nice if the city and fort carson could workout a partnership and put together a range just inside of carson. I am sure with all the red tape and "security risk" this will never happen but its an idea.

For what it's worth, Pueblo West Sportsmans Park is only a few miles south. Behind the berms is either Fort Carson or Walker Ranch and then Ft. Carson.

If this is ran anyway like Range 1 is ran, you'd never want to shoot there.

Eat shit Noob. I actually like the racetrack. However, we didn't move here to have a million people drive up and down our streets every day. I understand the need for a public range, but as the saying goes, not in my backyard.
