Chile has a tough building code and they build for earthquakes.
But this one is big so don't know how they will fair.
Holy crap that is big. I don't remember how fast those waves travel. Shouldn't they be arriving now or shortly?
about 2:00 something our time. they travel at 500 to 600 mph according to a news site I read. waves however are only expected to be 7' to 8.5'
Hope they are right about that.
I was in Kauai less than a week ago...
1.2' in Cabo San Lucas, but it's a less energy area...
7' to 8.5' is still bad for a Tsunami, since you add the current surf to that, and if there are several waves that arrive with the right timing, they can reinforce each other... hopefully it won't be too bad
American Samoa should have already been hit by the tsunami, but can't find any news from there
Wave expected to hit Hawaii any minute now...they are reporting the water is discolored and receeding in Hilo Bay...
Sounds like a nation that had it's head on straight - unlike the corrupt Haiti.
Lots of earthquakes, volcanic activity, etc. these last few years. I'd be interested to see the last time we had such a cylce of activity.
