    Default Shooting Accident

I caught a glimpse of something on the news; two people were shot near Lyons. They said the two groups were up target shooting and unaware of each other. One was shot in the stomach and the other was shot in the rear end? It sounded like it was at the North shooting spot? Don’t know?

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) -- Two people were accidentally shot near Allenspark, but neither appeared to be seriously injured.

The Larimer County Sheriff's office says the gunfire occurred about 4 p.m. Saturday in the Johnny Park area.
The office says two adults and two children had gone up to the area to do some target shooting, in two separate groups.
One victim was shot in the abdomen, while the other was hit in the buttocks. The office says both were hospitalized.
Apparently neither group knew the other was there until after the shooting.
The names of the victims have not been released, and officials didn't say whether the victims were the adults or the children.

Why do I have a hard time with this? Always know what your backstop is.

Default The four rules of gun safety.

    It bears repeating:
    1. All guns are always loaded!
    2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy!
    3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target!
    4. Always be sure of your target and what is beyond!

Exactly! Why would you not know what is between you and your backstop, and what is behind the backstop?!

I always wait a while up there before doing anything, look, listen, see if anything strange is out there. If nobody else is there shooting, go ahead and walk back to the backstop and check things out. seems silly... they probably just walked up and started shooting at stuff not knowing someone was working with some targets or something...

i hope this doesn't cause another rampart or similar case where they closed it to the public for shooting no matter where it is.

but agreed, when people are shooting they should pay more attention to there surroundings and where every round falls. we all know not everyone out there sees the same as we do in the basics of shooting.

lets hope for the best for the people in the hospital that they can have a speedy recovery.
