Default Dissenters To Be Detained As “Enemy Belligerents”

This comes from infowars.com. But read the PDF file of the bill written by who else but Sen. John McCain and Lieberman.

More of our rights and freedoms are stolen every year, yet the people smile and say it's for the good of everyone.

I have a hard time getting all worked up over something on Infowars ... a LOT of hyperbole and BS there.

After reading the text of the bill, it doesn't look to me like "dissenters" will be detained as "Enemy Belligerents" ... you have to be a member of Al Queda or otherwise engaged in actual terrorism (either directly or by providing material support for) in order to cross that line into "Enemy Belligerent" territory.

This bill looks like its simply designed to make sure anyone arrested for terrorism ends up in military custody and not in a civilian police custody.

But it was penned by McCain and Leiberman ... so that alone makes it suspect in my book.

While I would agree there is a possibility this might be abused (but that's pretty much true of any law), overall I don't see a big problem with it. As a matter of fact I think it's a pretty fair effort by McCain to deal with the issue of civilian vs military trials for terrorists. It pretty much defines who is and who isn't going to be targeted.

To be fair, I only read the bill. I didn't read the InfoWars.com article.

OUCH! I hate when I have to say something positive about John McCain.

They will bend and twist the laws to fit their needs. Did you listen to the speach by Peter Schiff on how congress has ssttrreettcchheedd the commerce clause:

To be honest I'd rather give foreign terrorists complete constitutional rights (including Miranda, a free lawyer, right to confront your accuser and see the evidence against you, etc) in exchange for complete constitutional rights for US Citizens (which would include permit-free CCW everywhere in the country, including on airplanes).

Of course that doesn't mean that the military can't interrogate them first ... even if it means the info gleaned from enhanced interrogation isn't admissible in the trial against them.

I am sure it was meant for the "Good of the People." I just love how we are now giving terrorist a trial but if you are a 'domestic terrorist' you get nothing of your rights and freedoms.

    Excellent
