anyone live in grand lake or estes park?

i have a friend coming into town in two weeks and wants to do some LIGHT hiking, and i wondered if anyone lived near enough to these places that they could tell me whether its worth it to try to hike in the national park this time of year or not. im not planning on hiking a 12k or higher or anything, just some light hiking. but, im so far in denver that i wasn't sure what the snow coverage is like up there. thanks!

Goto Mt. Falcon. There is a cool castle and easy hiking. Stop at the Morrison Inn and get a Margarita on the way back. Out of towners love it up there. I know you will need snow shoes up at Granby.

No, Mt. Falcon is south of Morrison. Red rocks is north.
To get to the the bottom of Mt.falcon go through the town of Morrison, turn left at last light in town go 1/2mile turn rt(west) look for signs to Mt.Falcon. You can start up top by going up 285, turn rt on 2nd rt turn west of c-470, on north turkey creek rd. (I think it north maybe south turkey creek rd.) go a few miles look for sign to Mt.Falcon.

Was just up by the park a week ago... snowshoes would be necesary... or snow pants if you don't mid trudging through hip deep snow.

What elevation does your friend live at? With the altitudes here, "light hiking" has a whole 'nother meaning. And at this time of year, high country trails will either be snowed in or nothing but mud. Plenty of light hiking around Red Rocks, or even Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. A driving trip through Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park would be cool too. Might get to do a little hoofin' and huffin' here and there. Enough to get a taste of Colorado.

I have hiked up to Mt. Falcon about 20 years ago. Forgot about the ruins up there. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to do it again if spring ever comes.
