I work over seas and travel a lot so I am thinking of getting Kindle. Has anybody had any experience with them?

I think you can do the same with a labtop. It's just a download. Apple has one coming out to compete with the kindle. Hope that helps.
I bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas and it works great. Plus it works all over the world by using cell phone technology to link up and download the books. There are a lot of free books but the one's you pay for are at a discounted rate. The screen is good too because its not a back light screen. It almost looks like a sticker on the screen, but its easy on the eyes, you don't get that burning like staring at a computer screen all day. The only thing I don't like is that its not a touch screen. Touch screen would be a nice feature.
Haven't you heard...

How in THE WORLD can they do that???The National Federation of the Blind announced Wednesday that the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Syracuse University in New York won't consider big rollouts of the electronic reading device unless Amazon makes it more accessible to visually impaired students.

I just pre-ordered the Apple iPad. A lot more expensive but looks more interesting to me.

It has text to speech capabilities built in. There was a bru-haha about the publishers of the books and the publishers of audiobooks not wanting to allow the Kindle to do text to speech, because they feared it would cut into their profits. The blind wanted to be able to use them to read anything (you can send data to the Kindle by email).
I looked into getting mm wife an e-reader and decided the nook was better than the kindle. She decided she didn't want one at all.
Wife has a Kindle. I've ordered/read several books on it and it's pretty neat. I can see it being extremely useful for someone who travels a lot.
I'm thinking of buying the Barnes and Nobel Nook. Seems to have a few more features than the Kindle. Also, you can go into any BN bookstore and hook up there to download/preview, etc... I think the selection is much larger, too.
I've downloaded the free Kindle software to my laptop, too. There are tons of free Kindle books and you could carry a laptop almost as easily as a Kindle...or instead of carrying a laptop and a Kindle. I think the Nook has the capability to share, too. Also, I think both versions allow you to "borrow" library books free.
There's something to be said for holding a real book in your hands but there are lots of other advantages to the e-readers.
