Default What Does Curios & Relics Mean?

From the standpoint of the BATF and shipping, selling, buying mostly. What is the intent or outcome of this designation by the Govt?

From the BATF's standpoint it's both a license you buy AND a class of guns. The license allows you to act much like an FFL holder on the guns that are on the C&R list. You can ship and receive the listed guns from anywhere/to anywhere in the US.

Listed guns are mostly older guns (50 years old), but there are many exceptions. The critera is partially based upon the value and what increases the value. If the gun is 10 years old, it likely would not qualify, but if the gun was 10 years old, engraved and presented to the President of the US on his 60th birth as a gift from the pentagon, it likely would. Guns that are more collectable and less desireable as shooters are more likely to qualify.

The list might name a huge group of guns, such as all Colt Model 1903's (over a 1/2 million qualify) or it might name a specific make, model and Serial Number of gun.
