Looking to get into 3 gun this year and have a few questions...

Am I gonna look like a tool wearing a chest rig?

I've been checking out some of the pics from past 3 gun events and I don't see too many people wearing any extra mags or any type of chest rig or war belts...

How many mags do most stages take?

How many shells do the shotgun stages take?

What are the distances for the stages?

I'm mainly looking to head to the events out in Weld county as the Lake George ones are a little too far away.

Usually two mags is enough for rifle and pistol.

How many shells do the shotgun stages take?

I heard Zak setup a 42 round shotgun stage up at Weld last month.

What are the distances for the stages?

I've never shot a Weld match, but I don't think they shoot farther than 300 yards. Aurora Gun Club has 3gun as well and they shoot out to 200.

I'm mainly looking to head to the events out in Weld county as the Lake George ones are a little too far away.

Don't forget there is Aurora 3Gun 3rd Saturday of the month 9am.

Run what you've got, and if it works, go with it. If not, other gear can be had.

How many mags do most stages take?

I'll usually have three extra pistol magazines on my belt, but it's rare to go through all of them. For rifle stages, I usually will take one spare mag with me. Usually two 30 round magazines will be enough to get you through a stage.

How many shells do the shotgun stages take?

On average, I'd say 12-20ish, most rounds will be birdshot, with an occasional slug shot thrown in.

What are the distances for the stages?

This varies from match to match depending on the facilities available and the whims of the match director. Figure pistol shots can be from contact distance to thirty or so yards, rifle shots from contact to two or three hundred, and shotgun from 10 to 100 yards.
