The Army is doubling the number of 7.62mm weapons in the infantry squad, increasing soldiers’ long-range killing power in the wide-open expanses of Afghanistan.
Good stuffs! I remember last year a guard man bitched about the Army taking all of the EBRs from them.

It's about time they recognized the need for more 7.62 weapons in that theater. I'll be interested to see what they decide on for a replacement for the M14. It may be an old design, but it's hard to argue with success.

I also am glad to see them adapt to the current need. M4 just doesnt reach out and smackem in the head at the distances they are seeing over there. And with the new camo. Good stuff since I might be there soon

I had no idea we even used a rifle that shot that round. I want one, how can I get one? Do I just have to build an AR-10?

very sweet rifles! There are just soo many sweet rifles and too little money in my account to have them all!

glad they are getting some good long range stuff, especially shooting in the desert.

The Army has been using 7.62x51mm SR-25's from Knights Armament for a long time now. The problem with them is the weight due to the integrally suppressed barrel and maintenance issues. The bolts are not holding up to the rigors of use in the mountains there, nor the extreme temp changes (70-80 deg daytime, teens at night).

I would love to have M1A, actually I would really like to have an M14....but just trying to be more practical. Very pricey! Plus fiance would would have my behind when spending a couple grand on a rifle right now instead of saving for our wedding...

Serious. All I hear about is people complaining about the inadequacies of the 5.56 round. I've never been in the military.

So AR-10 is the closest thing?

You can build something close, its based off of the M1A/M14. That, some nice glass, and an EBR stock ($800 +/- this is for the stock only) and youre gtg.
