Default All Militias are Dangerous and Racist!

Before we begin I think we all need to don our tin-foil hats – you’re going to need ‘em!

First, let me state that I am not a member of any militia, nor do I know anyone who is a militia member.

Years ago, I learned first-hand about what I like to call “democratic propaganda”. This is where those in authority ensure that their (shall we say) less than accurate version of the truth is what gets passed on to the “people”. That’s all I’ll say about that.

[Sarcasm]Apparently, all militia groups are nothing more than front organizations for militant racist groups. What did I say? How’d I come to this conclusion? [/Sarcasm]
Without the sarcasm, I need to add I’m aware that a great many militias actually are racist groups, have nothing but violence on their agenda, seek destruction and mayhem, and are just plain bad. Many, but not all.

We’re all aware that the mainstream media slants (said as kindly as possible) the information they publish. As I read the article I sourced below, I began to question the information I was being provided. By the time I reached the last paragraph (quoted here for your convenience), the motive of demonizing militias was rather transparent to me. This made me question what really was really going on with the “Hutaree” Christian militia. I’ll throw out a tin-foil possibility later.

    Source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20100330/us_time/08599197630800
The article is titled Why Are Extremist Militia Groups Growing in the U.S.?

Still, the Hutaree are a symptom of the continuing militia phenomenon, one that seems to have gained impetus since the election of Barack Obama as the first African-American President of the U.S. The Southern Poverty Law Center says that last year alone, the number of patriot and militia groups increased 244%, to 512. Though not necessarily racist, such groups fiercely oppose the federal government. In recent weeks, the health care debate seems to have fueled antigovernment sentiment that is far different from the last noticeable rise in extremist-group activity, after the 1992 election of Bill Clinton. "These shifts are a little more than some people can take," says Heidi Beirich, the Southern Poverty Law Center's director of research.

Just look at this paragraph a little more closely.
“Still, the Hutaree are a symptom of the continuing militia phenomenon, one that seems to have gained impetus since the election of Barack Obama as the first African-American President of the U.S.”Youdon’t even need to read between the lines for this one as it this just screams “racists are forming militias at an alarming rate since a black man was elected President”.

“U.S. The Southern Poverty Law Center says that last year alone, the number of patriot and militia groups increased 244%, to 512.” The SPLC is a radical organization drumming up claims of racism anywhere and everywhere they can – mostly to justify their own existence.

I do believe that the SPLC has done some true good where real cases of racism existed, but I believe that they have crossed lines that shouldn’t have been crossed by anyone who really wants to do the right thing.

“Though not necessarily racist, such groups fiercely oppose the federal government.”Whatever you folks do, don’t think about a pink-polka dot elephant. You can think of ANYTHING but a pink-polka dot elephant. Pink-polka dot elephants don’t exist, so don’t think about pink-polka dot elephants. “Though not necessarily racist” screams “militias are racist!”

What if (here’s the tin-foil possibility I spoke of before), this “Hutaree” militia hadn’t actually been doing or planning anything illegal? What if the current Administration created this story and all of the charges against this group as a subtle message to the rest of us (“us”= anyone who opposes the current Administration)? That message being “Sit down, shut up and color or you will be next”?

If they really want to know "Why Are Extremist Militia Groups Growing in the U.S.? as the title of the original article asked, perhaps those in power should look at how they are "leading" this nation and ignoring the will of the governed!

Okay, you can remove your tin-foil hat now, my conspiracy theory rant is over.

I for one think the "Southern Poverty Law Center" is a hate group in its core. It spends it's resources to trying and paint some groups as bad for the benefit of other groups. This is social justice, (read some are more equal than others).

While I do not know the history of the SPLC so I cannot say if they once had a useful purpose, I now see them as the same as La Raza, just pushing a racial agenda.

While I am not a militia member, nor a racist, the SPLC has named me (by my association) as such. I do not accept that jacket and will no longer hide my associations to avoid conflict.

I will wear my flag on my shirt with pride. I am an American and I believe in the constitution. I will prove it by defending and exercising my rights every day.

And no, I do not take what they say to be true without more information, remember what they have done and said in the past. This is a distraction while the other hand moves.

Now, taking the tin hat of but keeping it close by...

I don't think militias are bad things in and of themselves. I could do without the racist idiots, but I think the racist organizations are in the minority. Just remember, in the eyes of the media, most of us could be considered gun toting, anti-government, militia types...

I'm pretty sure the King of England considered George Washington and his buddies as a dangerous, anti-government militia. Turns out he was right. Look how that turned out......

^^^ This (the first paragraph) is the point I was trying to make.

Yeah, they are a lot a bad people in some of the militias and even a lot of totally bad militias, but the press this group is getting is actually spilling over into discussions of ALL militias and they're all being painted as bad. Just as we would be more often than not.

You can pretty much apply this phenomenon to pretty much anything though. Whatever people/groups make the news, simultaneously sets up expectations of what every other person/group related to the ones in the press are like.

    Otherwise, I'd agree.

the ACLU is the most racist organization IMO.

the forms you fill out (most recently for the census) that ask for you race and ethnicity also harbor racism. shouldn't it just say " are you: American, legal immigrant, illegal immigrant"

as for the large growth in militias, haven't we also seen the economy take a dump which leads people to become more protective of what they have since others are more desperate to get what they need.
everyone is becoming more and more aware how badly the .gov is being run, how much the .gov really screws them with taxes, giving their hard earned dollars to companies or sectors that don't deserve them and should have failed.
the country is going through changes, the people are going through changes and these groups help represent people as a whole or at least toward some of their strongest values. in large numbers the elected officials start to listen.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

    Agreed; absolutely.

Or, the .gov demonizes them and finds a way to either remove them or turn public opinion so far away from them the group loses its influence.

    ACLU- American Civil Liberties Union...
    However...
ANY organization that list a race in its name...
NAACP, UNNC, UBSF, BNC... or otherwise...
Replace the racial identifier with the word "White" and they would call it 'racial biggotry'.
